It
was Shri Subhash Guha Neogi, a banker by profession, who started organizing annual
flower show in Behala, Barisha, Kolkata, to draw visitors and instill in their
mind the importance of greenery and love for flower. He, at his personal initiative,
had been organizing the flower show for 25 years. The Society was then known as
Subarban Agri-Horticultural Society. Later, few enthusiastic professionals from
different streams including botanists joined him to build which now is known as
Barisha Suburban Agri-Horticultural Society. To
make special mention of Shri Santanu Samaddar, an electronics engineer and many
others who came forward and consolidated the strength of the team taking it to
a new horizon.
The
society was registered under West Bengal act XXIV of 1961 vide serial no 53863
of 2008-09, on 01 Aug, 2008 at Kolkata by Registrar of Firms, Societies and Non-Trading
Corporations, West Bengal.
Today,
the society has members from all walk of life. Corporates also joined hands with
the society to cherish its goal in bringing round more people to spread the message
of protection of environment, increase greenery and grow love for plants and flowers.
Specialists in Agriculture, Horticulture and Floriculture interacts with the plant
growers and lovers for better nourishment. Vegetable and Flower shows are organized
every year to bring awareness in the mind of mass and make floriculture and horticulture
more popular.
